Luckily, nobody was seriously hurt after a wild road rage incident was caught on multiple cameras that showed the driver of a Ford Escape plowing through a crowd and driving down a bike lane over the weekend.
On July 29, Toronto Police Service reported that it has significant measures to apprehend suspects involved in the dangerous driving investigation. According to a TPS press release, the incident involved a road rage confrontation that spiraled out of control, posing serious risks to public safety in the Front Street West and Lower Simcoe Street area.
According to the police report, the alleged perpetrator was operating a blue Ford Escape SUV. The vehicle had three passengers onboard when the situation escalated into a violent encounter with another driver. A man reportedly wielded a collapsible baton, smashing the hood of the other vehicle before attempting to flee the crowded Harbourfront area in the vehicle.
Ignoring the heavy traffic conditions, a video posted to the Toronto page of Reddit shows the driver took to the sidewalk, endangering pedestrians in the process. In his attempt to flee, TPS reported that the driver hit seven stationary vehicles before finally being apprehended.
The video also shows a number of people attempting to chase down the vehicle, and making sure to get camera footage of the incident.
The Toronto Police Service arrested four individuals who were in the SUV during the incident. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but the potential danger posed by the suspects’ actions cannot be overstated.
One of those apprehended face a number of charges including Possession of a Weapon, Mischief to Property Under $5000, two counts of Fail to Stop for Police, four counts of Dangerous Operation, Possession of Property Obtained By Crime Under $5000, Drive Motor Vehicle While Suspended, and Use Unauthorized Plate.
Additionally, another 18-year-old suspect, also from Toronto, was arrested and charged with Carry Concealed Weapon. She is set to appear in court at the Ontario Court of Justice in Toronto on Sept. 13.
The two remaining individuals involved were released unconditionally by the authorities.
