A recent report has shed light on which airports across the nation are most likely to cause disruptions for travellers where people are most likely to appear in social media posts with a throng of fellow vacationers sleeping on airport floors while waiting and waiting for flights. The research considered factors such as flight delays, cancellations, and the size of the airports.
Data was collected via Flight Aware over a period of Aug. 29 to Sept. 4, 2023, so definitely not a huge sample size by any stretch of the statistical imagination.
Toronto’s Pearson International Airport came out on top as the most problematic airport in Canada according to Bonus Finder Canada, receiving a dismal score of 1.11 out of 10 on the inconvenience scale. Travellers passing through this major hub should brace themselves for potential delays, with odds of 20.43% and cancellations at 3.57%.
Ottawa Macdonald-Cartier International Airport and Regina International Airport in Saskatchewan share the runner-up positions for delays and cancellations, both earning a subpar score of 1.89 out of 10. Over a seven-day period, travellers at these airports face delay odds of 19.29% in Ottawa and 15.29% in Regina, with differing cancellation odds at 2.29% for Regina and a slightly better 3.14% for Ottawa Macdonald-Cartier. .
Montreal-Trudeau International Airport clinches the third spot on the list with a score of 2.22 out of 10. Serving as a vital gateway to Quebec and Montreal, this bustling airport handles millions of passengers annually and boasts multiple runways. Despite undergoing expansion projects, it continues to experience sporadic delays, with odds of 24.71%, along with a cancellation rate of 1.43%.
In fourth place is Halifax Stanfield International Airport, scoring 3.45 out of 10, where travelers contend with an 18.71% likelihood of delays over a seven-day average. Meanwhile, London International Airport rounds off the list with a score of 4.56 out of 10 and a 6.14% delay rate based on a seven-day average.
