The Toronto Police Service is reaching out to the public for help in an ongoing mischief investigation involving a suspect called the Ink Bandit online.
Between June 14 and Aug. 24, 2023, law enforcement responded to a series of five incidents occurring within the Financial District. It is alleged that in each of these incidents, an unidentified male targeted unsuspecting pedestrians by spraying them with pen ink. All occurrences transpired between the hours of 8 a.m. and 10 a.m.
The suspect is described in a TPS press release as a man in his 30s, standing approximately 5’8″ tall, with a slender build and short, dark hair. During these incidents, he was observed wearing grey sneakers, a black baseball cap, and carrying a black/grey backpack, while sporting white corded headphones.
The incident and the name the Ink Bandit came to prominence following what appeared to be a first-person account of an inking was posted to the Reddit Toronto website 16 days ago
“Yesterday I was hit with ink in the morning and only noticed once I got to work,” wrote the commenter. “Today, I saw these two people had been hit with ink. Neither of them had noticed. When I got to work a colleague had also been inked.”
Authorities are urging anyone who may have fallen victim to these ink-spraying incidents or possesses information related to the case to contact the Toronto Police at 416-808-5200.
