Maple Leafs get into spirit of Halloween with creative party costumes

Once a year, at the end of October, the Maple Leafs trade their blue and white sweaters for all manner of creative costumes.

The team’s annual Halloween party was Tuesday, held a bit earlier with a five-game road trip taking them out of town until nearly the end of the month.

New winger Ryan Reaves had posts of his very convincing Snoop Dogg look, while his wife Alanna Forsyth went as saucy homemaker Martha Stewart.

“We were in the Uber going to the party and the guy actually asked me if I was a rapper,” Reaves told reporters at practice Wednesday. “He didn’t know that Halloween was this early. I guess I pulled it off well.”

Reaves added if anyone saw four men in speedskater body suits rollerblading through town that night it was alternate captains Auston Matthews, Morgan Rielly and rookies Matthew Knies and Fraser Minten.

“Tights, everything, they looked pretty good,” Reaves said.

Alternate captain Mitch Marner said his wife Stephanie LaChance went as the animated Pink Panther from the 1960s movie franchise and himself as Inspector Jacques Clouseau.

“It was great, I got to wear a tie and dress shirt,” Marner said dryly, “just what I want to do on an off day (from wearing a tie and a dress shirt).”
