Woodland announced in late August that doctors had found a lesion on his brain and he would be undergoing surgery to remove it.

“I was diagnosed a few months ago and have been trying to treat symptoms with medication,” Woodland wrote at the time. “After consulting with multiple specialists and discussing with my family, we’ve made the decision that surgery to remove the lesion is the best course of action.”

After the Sept. 18 surgery, the golfer’s management team posted to social media that a “majority” of the tumour had been removed and also thanked fans for their support.

Woodland famously won the U.S. Open in 2019 at Pebble Beach and also has four victories on the PGA Tour.

During his U.S. Open triumph, he held off a red-hot Brooks Koepka down the stretch and shot a 13-under 271, which is tied for the third-lowest winning score at the major.
