TORONTO, Nov. 11, 2022 – Tracy Moore of Cityline was on hand to host an exclusive fashion show to celebrate the recent grand opening of Freda’s fashion boutique in the heart of downtown Toronto. The show was directed by fashion stylist Erica Wark and presented by Conceptual Event Society, drawing a crowd of fashionistas, media and clients. For the audience, this was a chance to view and try on private collections along with high-end imported designer labels from Europe.
The runway show featured looks from casual wear to suiting to evening wear with luxury fashions photographed by George Pimentel and on-the-spot fashion illustrations by Trivia Hiller.
“After going through a difficult period with COVID and the lockdown and restrictions, it was so nice to welcome our clients and media to our grand opening this fall,” says Freda Iordanous, Vice President and Co-owner of Freda’s. “The key colour trends we are seeing for fall include rich camels, spicy mustard, beautiful hues of chocolates and limes and hot pink has been a dominating colour this season. There is more of a relaxed feel with wider leg trousers, houndstooth and checkered patterns. We are seeing the synergy of comfort and style all in one and blending casual comfort with elegant pieces.”
Freda has seen a shift in fashions as many of us are returning to the work force, at least part time.
“When COVID first hit, we were focusing on lounge styles, but now there is a larger demand for suiting and tailored looks,” says Freda. “We are taking elements of men’s fashions and incorporating them into women’s fashions. Tailored suiting is making a comeback. People are going out more and want a more dressed up and tailored look. The three-piece ladies’ vest style is making a comeback from the early 80’s fashions. We have also seen clients incorporating casual styles with blazers, offering a nice alternative to dressing down style. Gone are the yoga pants to a more relaxed drawstring elevated style mixed with a tailored blazer or shirt.”
The layered look is a key trend for Winter 2022/23. “Mixing blouses, sweaters and blazers to create a distinctive look,” adds Freda. “We are also seeing monochromatic looks blended with bold patterns and prints. Each style creates a beautiful ensemble mixing bold statements of camels and off white to various tones of fuchsia in the same colour palette.”
A few standout pieces in the fashion show included a stunning vibrant green double-faced wool coat by Collection La Marque paired with a cozy pullover cotton blend sweater by Heymann from Austria; a beautifully crafted blazer by Canadian designers Marie Saint Pierre worn with a white cotton shirt by Marc Cain of Germany and pants by Canadian label collection La Marquee. The suiting look was highlighted in a khaki Malva Wool coat, designed in Montreal, featuring a zip-out leather vest insert. The coat was paired with a Marc Cain printed turtleneck and skirt by Canadian designer Landscape Clothing.
Freda’s is a family-owned success story, owned and managed by the mother-daughter team of Freda Iordanous and Paulina Georgiou. Freda opened the store in 1972. “Dressing women for success and continuing the reputation we have established over 40 years is a legacy we aim to continue,” states Paulina Georgiou. Freda’s recently re-launched their fashion factory and is focusing on creating more private label for the new boutique.
“We are excited to offer clients a one-stop fashion destination,” explains Freda. “The main level offers casual to suiting for work and play. The second level offers an assortment of stunning cocktail and evening gowns for weddings and gala events. The new space offers a sleek modern style incorporating rich marbles in whites and greys that allows the clothes to pop. What I am so proud of is being in this business and surviving after so long. It’s not often you are able to see a fashion company succeed in such a volatile environment, especially during COVID. It was a time of restrictions and closures, but we also moved into our new location during this time. It was stressful, but without the support of our clients, we could not reach where we are today, and for that we are forever grateful.”
Over the years, Freda’s has dressed several media personalities including Cityline’s Tracy Moore, Canadian singer-songwriter Deborah Cox, the team from The Social and others.
Freda’s is located at 45 Elm St. just off Bay, two blocks north of Dundas.
